17 MAY 2026, DAY 136 – JESUS, THE GOOD SHEPHERD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Psalms 22-24 chapters DEVOTION

In Psalm 23, the psalmist describes the Lord as a Shepherd from his own experience, since he spent his early years caring for sheep. In The Gospel of John 10:11, Jesus says,”I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Jesus is the perfect Shepherd loving, faithful, protective, and sacrificial.

Are we being good sheep?

Characteristics of Sheep

1. FOLLOWERS

Sheep instinctively follow the shepherd’s voice. To follow Christ, we must first learn to hear His voice through prayer, Scripture, and obedience.

2. DEPENDENT

Sheep completely depend on the shepherd for food, care, and protection. In the same way, we are called to depend on God daily rather than relying only on our own strength.

3. VULNERABLE

Sheep are defenceless without a shepherd. Life brings pain, suffering, fear, and uncertainty, but the Good Shepherd gives comfort, guidance, and eternal security.

4. UNABLE TO RISE WITHOUT HELP

sheep that falls on its back cannot get up by itself. Likewise, there are moments when we fall spiritually, emotionally, or mentally and need God’s intervention to restore us.

Are you truly following the voice of the Good Shepherd?

Are you depending on Him daily?

In vulnerable situations, to whom do you look first?

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for being the Good Shepherd in my life. Many times I have wandered away from Your path and ignored Your voice, yet in Your mercy, grace, and love, You brought me back. Forgive me for the times I strayed from You. Help me to be a faithful sheep who listens to Your voice and walks in obedience every day. Amen.
