16 AUGUST 2026, DAY 228 – DO YOU OBEY GOD WHEN IT’s CONVENIENT?

TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Jeremiah 34-36 Chapters

DEVOTION
Jeremiah 35:13–17
The Recabites challenge us with a powerful example of obedience. Their ancestor gave them one simple command to not to drink wine and they faithfully followed it for generations. They obeyed the instruction of a human leader who was imperfect just like you and me. Yet their commitment remained firm for hundreds of years.

God used their obedience to expose the disobedience of His people. Judah had received far greater instruction from the Almighty God, yet they repeatedly refused to obey.

If the Recabites could faithfully obey a command given by a fallible human being, how much more should I obey the instructions of my perfect and loving God?

Obedience is not only about what we do when everything is going well. True obedience is revealed when God’s Word challenges our desires, when circumstances are difficult, and when those around us are choosing a different path.

You may have failed God in many ways, but failure should never become an excuse to stop obeying. God graciously calls you back and gives you another opportunity to walk in His ways.

Are you obeying God wholeheartedly?
Do you obey Him only when it is convenient?
How committed are you to following Him, even when it is difficult?

PRAYER
Lord, help me obey Your instructions irrespective of the things happening around me. Give me strength to remain faithful even when obedience is difficult. I choose to obey You because I love You, Lord. May my life bring glory to Your name. In Jesus name, Amen.
