Jeremiah 44:16-18
One of the greatest dangers during difficult seasons is looking for the problem everywhere except within ourselves.
After Jerusalem was destroyed, the people fled to Egypt. Instead of turning back to God and examining their disobedience, they hardened their hearts and blamed their troubles on the wrong things. They even convinced themselves that their former idolatry had brought them prosperity.
How easily we can do the same.
When trouble comes, we may ask, “Who is responsible?” or “Why is God allowing this?”
But the better question is “Lord, what are You trying to show me?”
God may use a difficult season to expose something in our hearts, correct our direction, or remind us of an instruction we have ignored. Trouble should not always make us run away from God it should cause us to run toward Him and examine our lives in His light.
Before blaming circumstances, people, or others, let us quietly ask
“Have I obeyed what God has already told me?”
The answer requires humility, repentance. It may require us to change our direction. But obedience to God is always better than remaining comfortable in disobedience.
PRAYER
Lord, when I walk through trouble and uncertainty, help me not to look for someone or something to blame. Give me a humble heart that is willing to examine my life in Your light. Show me where I have drifted from You and remind me of the instructions You have already given me. Give me the courage to obey. Let every difficult season draw me closer to You rather than farther away. May Your presence guide me, correct me. In Jesus name, Amen.
