TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Ecclesiastes 10-12 Chapters
DEVOTION
“As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink, so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honour.” Ecclesiastes 10:1 (NLT)
Just a few dead flies can cause an expensive bottle of perfume to give off a foul odour. In the same way, King Solomon warns us that a small, careless mistake or foolish choice can damage a life marked by wisdom and honour.
We see this illustrated in the life of Samson. One careless decision and his willingness to be where he should not have been set him on a path that eventually led to his downfall. One wrong thought or one wrong choice can move us one step closer to consequences we never intended.
From a human perspective, we often think that great damage requires something big to happen. But this verse reminds us that
A single foolish thought
A single foolish action
A single careless word
A small compromise
can spoil or even destroy what has taken years to build.
God calls us to be vigilant, because the little things we ignore today can become the very things that weaken our character tomorrow.
When a foolish thought enters your mind, what will you do with it?
Don’t entertain it. Bring it to God and replace it with His truth. Speak God’s Word over your thoughts. As an example, meditate on 2 Corinthians 10:5, which reminds us to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for the privilege of reading Your Word each day. Lord please rescue me from foolish thoughts, careless actions, and harmful words. Help me guard my heart with all diligence and fill me with Your wisdom so that my thoughts, words, actions, and behavior will honor You. Strengthen me to overcome foolishness by the power of Your Spirit.
In Jesus name, Amen.
