TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Jeremiah 10-12 Chapters
DEVOTION
Jeremiah 11:18-23
To Jeremiah’s surprise, the people of Anathoth, his hometown, were plotting to kill him because they wanted to silence his message for several reasons.
- Economic
His condemnation of idol worship could hurt the business of the idol makers. - Religious
His message about their coming judgment made them uncomfortable and guilty. - Personal
The people hated him because he showed them that they were wrong.
In the contemporary world, we often face opposition when we stand by God’s morals and standards. This is one of my favourite quotes: “The game doesn’t begin unless there’s an enemy out there.”
Opposition does not always mean we are doing something wrong. Sometimes, it is evidence that we are standing for something that matters.
Jeremiah did not take revenge. He did not go around complaining to everyone about the people who were against him. Instead, he brought his situation before God.
That is a powerful lesson for us. When opposition comes, don’t run to people but run to God.
When someone mocks you, pray.
When someone misunderstands you, pray.
When someone speaks against you, pray.
When you feel discouraged, pray.
Go into your prayer closet and pour out your heart before the One who sees everything. God knows the truth, God knows your heart, and God is able to defend you.
You don’t have to fight every battle with people. Some battles are won on your knees.
So, when opposition comes your way, don’t let it make you bitter, fearful, or discouraged. Let it drive you deeper into the presence of God.
God is our hiding place.
PRAYER
God, whenever opposition comes my way, help me not to complain or become afraid. Instead, help me run to You and seek Your presence. You are my hiding place and my refuge. Give me courage to stand firm in Your truth and strength to continue proclaiming Your Word. In Jesus name, Amen
