Ezekiel 22:17-22
Precious metals are refined through intense heat. As the metal is heated, its impurities rise to the surface and are removed. The heat is meant to purify it and reveal what is truly there.
In Ezekiel 22, God describes Jerusalem as being placed in the furnace because of the sin and corruption among His people. The refining process exposed their impurity and showed that there was nothing of value left in them.
Sometimes, God allows us to walk through difficult and painful seasons not because He wants to harm us, but because He wants to expose and remove what is not pleasing to Him.
The furnace reveals what is hidden beneath the surface like pride, unforgiveness, bitterness, selfishness, compromise, wrong attitudes, or secret sins. When God brings these things to light, we have a choice. We can ignore them, justify them, or surrender them to Him.
If something has come to the surface in your heart while reading this devotion, don’t push it back down. Bring it before God today. Confess, repent of it, and make the conscious decision to let it go.
The refining process may be painful, but God’s purpose is to make us more like Him.
PRAYER
Lord, expose every impurity in my life that is not pleasing to You. I repent my sins and give me the strength to let go of everything that keeps me away from You. Refine my heart and make me more like You.
