TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Psalms 73-75 Chapters
DEVOTION
“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 (KJV)
CONTEXT : Asaph was appointed to lead God’s people in worship. Yet despite his spiritual role, he struggled inwardly. When he saw the prosperity of the arrogant and wicked, he began to question whether serving God was truly worth it. The more he dwelt on these thoughts, the more troubled and discouraged he became.
Many of us can relate right. There are times when our emotions mislead us, our desires pull us in the wrong direction, and our hearts become overwhelmed. In those moments, we may feel weak, confused, and discouraged. But Asaph discovered a life-changing truth that when his heart and strength failed, God remained his strength and his portion forever.
WHAT A PREVILEGE WE HAVE IN GOD!
Few months ago, I had the privilege of visiting a North Indian aunty. She worked as a daily wage labourer, and her home was very simple not even a chair to sit on. The surroundings were far from comfortable.
Yet the moment I began speaking with her, I noticed something remarkable that’s the joy in her face. I asked her how she came to know God. She shared that she had suffered from a sickness for many years. Despite taking medication for a long time, she found no healing. One day, someone invited her to church, and there she encountered Jesus. God touched her life and set her free.
As our conversation continued, she told me about her family. Because she chose to follow Jesus, many of her relatives including her own parents rejected her and treated her as an outcast. For nearly seven years, she endured rejection, pain, and abuse. Now she staying in a different city. Her husband is alcoholic and often mistreated her. When she showed me the scars and marks left by the trauma, my eyes were filled with tears.
I finally asked her, “How can you still be so joyful after everything you’ve been through?” Without hesitation she replied, “Jesus is my everything. I find my joy in Him.” Her answer deeply challenged me.
Both Asaph and this dear sister in Christ faced circumstances that could have crushed them emotionally. Yet both found strength in God. Their situations were not easy, but GOD’S PRESENCE WAS ENOUGH.
The same God who strengthened Asaph and sustained this aunty is with us today. Whatever you may be facing right now whether disappointment, loneliness, fear, or emotional exhaustion, come to Him as you are. He is still the strength of your heart.
PRAYER
Lord, when my heart grows weary and my strength fails, help me to find my strength in You alone. Thank you for being my portion forever. No matter what I face, I will trust in Your presence and rest in Your unfailing love. Amen.
