19 OCTOBER 2026, DAY 290 – PAINFUL SELF DISCIPLINE

TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Mark 8-11 chapters

DEVOTION

Mark 9:43-48

The above verses contain startling language that is not meant to promote self-harm but to emphasize the importance of cutting sin out of our lives. But if you are a true follower of Christ, painful self-discipline is required.

It may mean giving up a habit, a kind of thought process, job, or relationship that is against God’s will. Such a decision may be as painful as cutting off a hand.

But you know what?

CHRIST is worth any possible loss and any discomfort.

Let us make a firm decision to be ruthless in removing sin from our lives.

From now on, before making any decision, let us consider it from an eternal perspective.

PRAYER

Lord, it is painful to practise self-discipline, but I know that You are worthy of any possible loss and discomfort. Today, I choose to give up any habit, thought, job, or relationship that is not in line with Your will. I lay everything at Your altar. Help me to walk in self-discipline throughout the day. In Jesus name, amen.
