TODAY’s SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 10-12 Chapters
DEVOTION
“But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?” Isaiah 10:15 (NLT)
Can a saw claim to be greater than the carpenter who holds it? Of course not. A tool has no power or purpose on its own, it fulfills its purpose only in the hands of the one who uses it.
In Isaiah 10, God describes Assyria as an instrument He used to accomplish His purposes. Yet instead of remaining humble, Assyria became proud, acting as though its victories were the result of its own strength. God reminded them that the instrument is never greater than the One who wields it.
The same truth speaks to us today. Every gift, opportunity, and accomplishment we have is ultimately from God. We may work diligently and make faithful choices, but our abilities, strength, wisdom, and even the opportunities before us are gifts of His grace.
When we remember this, pride gives way to gratitude. We stop seeking recognition for ourselves and instead desire that God be glorified through our lives.
May we always remain willing instruments in the Master’s hands available, obedient, and useful for His kingdom.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for every gift, ability, and opportunity You have entrusted to me. Help me guard my heart from pride, and remind me that apart from You I can do nothing. Shape me into a faithful instrument in Your hands, and use my life to accomplish Your purposes and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus name, Amen.
