22 SEPTEMBER 2026, DAY 265 – GOD IS JUST

TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Obadiah 1 chapter

DEVOTION

Obadiah 1:4-9

CONTEXT
Obadiah was speaking about Edom, a nation related to Judah through their ancestor Esau. When Jerusalem and Judah faced trouble, Edom did not come to their aid. Instead, they rejoiced over Judah’s downfall and participated in their suffering. Because of their pride, hostility, and actions against Judah, God announced judgment against Edom.

God did not pronounce judgment against Edom out of personal vengeance, but because He is a righteous and just God. Their judgment was connected to their actions and the way they had treated Judah.

God is morally perfect, and He demands justice and righteousness. The judgment of Edom reminds us that our actions have consequences.

Sometimes we may think, “Nobody will know,” or “I won’t get caught.” But we can never hide anything from God. He is all-knowing. He sees our actions, hears our words, and knows even the thoughts and intentions of our hearts.

When we sin, God graciously offers forgiveness when we turn to Him in repentance. Yet forgiveness does not necessarily remove every consequence of our choices. We should therefore never treat God’s grace as permission to continue in sin.

Let us remember today

we may hide our actions from people, but nothing is hidden from God. Because He is just and righteous, we are called to live honestly, humbly, and faithfully before Him.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for being a righteous and just God. Help me to live each day with the awareness that You see and know every thought and action. Guard my heart from sin and help me choose what is right, even when no one else is watching. Give me a heart that fears You, loves You, and walks faithfully in Your ways. In Jesus name, amen.
