TODAY’s SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 28-30 Chapters
DEVOTION
Jeremiah 29:7 (NLT)
“And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”
Work for the peace and prosperity?
where?
In exile?
That must have sounded strange to the Israelites.
They were in Babylon not because they wanted to be there, but because they had been taken captive. Yet God told them not to put their lives on hold. He asked them to build, pray, work, and seek the welfare of the very place where they were suffering.
What a powerful lesson for us.
Sometimes life takes us into seasons we never expected. We may face disappointment, uncertainty, opposition, loss, or circumstances we cannot control. Our first response may be to ask, “Why am I here?”
But God may be asking something different:
“What can you do for My glory while you are here?”
Trouble does not mean life has to stop or giving it up.
Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:8, 9 that
What a beautiful picture of a life that refuses to give up. Paul faced rejection, persecution, suffering, uncertainty, and hardship, yet he continued moving forward because he knew that God had not abandoned him.
The same is true for us.
Sometimes we think, “When my situation changes, then I will have peace.” But Jeremiah 29 teaches us something different that we can seek peace even before our circumstances change.
God told His people to pray for Babylon not because Babylon was perfect, but because prayer was needed there.
In the same way, we are called to pray for our nation, our leaders, our communities, our families, and even those with whom we DISAGREE. We may not be able to change everything around us, but we can pray, encourage, and be a source of peace.
So, my dear friend, don’t give up because life is difficult. Don’t let uncertainty convince you that God has forgotten you. Keep moving forward and praying.
Your present situation is not the end of your story. God is still working, even in places and seasons you never expected to be.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to seek peace even in difficult circumstances. When I feel like giving up, remind me that You are with me. Help me to pray for my nation, India, for peace, prosperity, righteousness, and unity. Bless our leaders with wisdom and guide them to make decisions that bring good to the people. Help me not to focus only on what is wrong around me, but to ask how I can be a blessing wherever You have placed me. Let my life bring peace and hope to others, even in difficult seasons. In Jesus name, Amen
