Jeremiah 13:1–11
Jeremiah often used object lessons to capture people’s attention, create curiosity, and clearly communicate God’s message.
The people of Israel were once close to God, but their pride caused them to drift far away from Him.
Proverbs 8:13 (NKJV)
“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way.”
Pride is thinking too highly of ourselves. For a moment, pride may make us feel important or powerful, but God calls pride and arrogance evil. Eventually, pride can make a person useless in God’s hands. Infact even in any aspect of life.
God told Jeremiah to take a linen belt, hide it by the Euphrates, and later go back to retrieve it. When Jeremiah found the belt, it had become spoiled and useless.
In the same way, when we allow pride to enter our hearts, it may seem harmless at first. But slowly, pride takes hold of our hearts and separates one from God. It can destroy our usefulness and prevent us from being what God has called you to be.
Let us therefore examine our hearts and surrender our pride to God. Instead of holding on to pride, may we humble ourselves before Him and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I lay my pride and prideful thoughts at Your altar. Take away every prideful attitude from my heart and replace it with the presence and guidance of Your Holy Spirit. Help me to walk in humility. Teach me to recognize pride before it takes root in my life. Guide me each day and help me become useful for Your kingdom.
May my life bring glory and honor to Your name. In Jesus name, Amen.
