DEVOTION
Isaiah 16 chapter
Moab had long been an enemy of Israel and Judah. When the Assyrians brought devastation upon Moab, many Moabite refugees fled toward Edom. In their distress, the Moabites sent lambs as a tribute to the ruler in Zion, seeking protection and mercy. This tribute symbolized humility and submission.
Through the prophet Isaiah, God called for compassion toward those who were suffering. Rather than retaliating God’s people were encouraged to provide shelter and protection to those in need.
This challenges us today. When someone who has hurt us comes asking for help, how do we respond?
Our natural tendency is to show kindness only to those we love. But God calls us to do something greater. He calls us to love even our enemies, to extend mercy instead of bitterness, and to reflect the compassion that Christ has shown us.
Matthew 5:44 (KJV)
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
Loving our enemies is not something we can accomplish through our own strength. It is the work of the Holy Spirit within us. As we surrender our hearts to God, He enables us to forgive, to love, and to show compassion even to those who have wronged us.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word. Teach me to love my enemies, bless those who curse me, do good to those who hate me, and pray for those who mistreat me. I know I cannot do this in my own strength. I surrender all the pain, agony in to your mighty hands. Please work in my heart and fill me with Your love and compassion so that I may reflect You in everything I do. In Jesus name, Amen
