27 JUNE 2026, DAY 178 – GUARD YOUR TONGUE

TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Psalms 141-143 Chapters

DEVOTION

“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” Psalms 141: 3 NIV

David recognised that words spoken in anger, fear, or frustration can cause lasting harm. Rather than relying only on self-control, he asked God for help.

In James 3:5, where the tongue is compared to a small spark that can ignite a great forest fire. Small words can have enormous consequences for good or for harm.

Jesus Christ, who remained silent before His accusers. His silence was not weakness but purposeful restraint, showing wisdom and trust in the Father’s will.

Before speaking, ask these questions

Will these words honor God?

Will they build up rather than tear down?

When emotions run high, make David’s prayer your own before responding. Remember that silence, at the right time, can be an act of wisdom and faith.

PRAYER

Dear God, thank you for me making me understand the power of my tongue and the words. Help me set a guard over my mouth and keep watch over my lips. Help me speak words that are truthful, gracious, and honoring to You. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to remain silent. May my words bring peace, encouragement, and glory to Your name. In Jesus name, Amen.
