25 JUNE 2026, DAY 176 – YOU BECOME LIKE WHAT YOU WORSHIP

TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Psalms 135-137 Chapters

DEVOTION

Psalm 135:15–18 The psalmist contrasts lifeless idols with the living God in the above verses. “And those who make idols are just like them, as are all who trust in them.” Psalms 135:18 NLT

Idols may have mouths, eyes, ears, and noses, but they cannot speak, see, hear, or smell. They are powerless because they are made by human hands. The sobering warning is that those who trust in idols become like them spiritually blind, deaf to God’s voice, and insensitive to His presence.

This truth extends beyond carved images. Anything that takes God’s rightful place in our hearts can become an idol. Money, success, relationships, reputation, social approval, comfort, or even our own ambitions can quietly become objects of worship.

A simple principle emerges that we become like what we worship.

When we focus on temporary things, our hearts become consumed by them. But when we worship the living God, we slowly turn in to his image. We grow in love, humility, compassion, holiness, and faith.

What is the highest priority in my life?

What occupies my thoughts the most?

What do I depend on for security and identity?

Is there anything taking God’s place in my heart?

Take a moment today to honestly examine your heart. Ask God to reveal any idols and help you place Him first in every area of your life.

PRAYER

Dear God, forgive me for allowing other things to take Your place in my heart. Help me to make You my highest priority and to worship You alone. Mould me to reflect Your character more each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
