TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Psalms 119:89-176 Verses
DEVOTION
Psalm 119:95 (NLT) “Though the wicked hide along the way to kill me, I will quietly keep my mind on your laws.” This verse presents two contrasting realities which is a serious danger and a response.
The psalmist recognises that the wicked, those who oppose God’s ways are waiting to harm him. Yet instead of being consumed by fear, he chooses to focus his mind on God’s Word.
It is easy to obey God when life is going well. However, when we face stress, opposition, or danger, our emotions often take control. We may react impulsively, saying or doing things we later regret.
For example, when we are overwhelmed and someone repeatedly asks us questions, we may respond in anger without thinking. That is why the psalmist’s response is so remarkable. Rather than allowing fear or emotions to guide him, he meditates on God’s law. This goes against our natural human tendency, but it becomes possible when we consistently fill our hearts with God’s Word.
Whatever fills our hearts will eventually shape our words, thoughts, and actions. As we read and meditate on Scripture daily, God’s truth becomes deeply rooted within us. Then, when difficult situations arise, we are less likely to be controlled by our emotions and more likely to respond according to God’s wisdom.
PRAYER
Dear God, Thank You for making Your Word so accessible to me. Unlike many early believers who risked their lives to read and preserve the Scriptures, I have the privilege of freely accessing Your Word every day. Help me never to take that privilege for granted. When I face stress, fear, or difficult circumstances, help me not to be ruled by my emotions. Instead, remind me of Your truth and give me the strength to obey Your Word. May my thoughts, words, and actions reflect Your wisdom in every situation. In Jesus name, Amen.
