TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Jeremiah 22-24 Chapters
DEVOTION
Jeremiah 22:15-17
God passed judgment on king Jehoiakim. King Jehoiakim had a godly example in his father, King Josiah. Josiah was one of Judah’s faithful kings who sought to honor God and lead the people in His ways. Yet Jehoiakim chose a different path. He had the privilege of growing up under a godly example, but he failed to follow it.
This reminds us that a godly heritage does not automatically produce godly character.
We may inherit many blessings from our parents like the wealth, education, a good name, a beautiful home, opportunities, or possessions. We may even grow up surrounded by people who love God. But none of these things can replace our own personal relationship with Him.
God did not judge Jehoiakim based on the faithfulness of his father. He examined Jehoiakim’s own heart, choices, and actions. In the same way, each of us is personally responsible for the character we develop and the life we choose to live.
In a world where values are constantly changing, our character must be rooted in God, not in circumstances or human approval. When we walk closely with Him, He shapes our hearts, corrects our ways, and teaches us to live with justice, humility and honesty.
So let us honestly ask ourselves
If God examines your life today, what does He see?
Does my life reflect His character?
Are my thoughts and actions consistent?
Am I becoming more like Christ?
May we never depend only on the faith of our parents or the blessings we have received. Instead, let us choose every day to know God, obey Him, and allow Him to build a strong and godly character within us.
YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE WHERE YOU ARE NOW AND STOP BLAMING OTHERS FOR IT.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for the wisdom and warning i receive from the life of King Jehoiakim. Thank you for making me understand that I am personally responsible for the character I build and the choices I make. Search my heart and reveal anything that is not pleasing to You. Give me the strength to choose what is right, even when the world around me chooses otherwise. Help me to walk faithfully with You. May my life not only receive Your blessings but also reflect Your character. Let others see Your love, righteousness, humility, and truth through the way I live. In Jesus name,
Amen.
