DEVOTION
“My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honour around your neck.”
Proverbs 1:8-9 NLT
Parents often offer guidance shaped by many years of experience. Even when they don’t fully understand every aspect of modern life, their desire is usually to protect, guide, and help their children make wise decisions.
Proverbs encourages us to value that instruction, describing it as something that brings honor and grace. Honoring our parents involves listening with humility, showing respect, and caring for them throughout our lives.
At the same time, the Bible teaches that our highest allegiance belongs to God. When parental advice aligns with God’s wisdom, following it is a blessing. If there is ever a conflict, Scripture calls us to obey God above all while still treating our parents with love and respect. Whether we are young or grown, we can all express gratitude for those who have cared for us.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for the parents and mentors You have placed in my life. Give me a humble heart that is willing to listen to wise instruction. Help me honor my parents with my words, actions, and care, and give me discernment to follow Your truth above all else. May my life reflect Your wisdom and love. In Jesus name, Amen.
