TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 11-15 chapters DEVOTION
In above mentioned chapters of Leviticus God explains laws about what is clean and unclean. To be unclean meant being unfit to approach God. This was the normal condition for the surrounding nations, but not for Israel. God wanted His people to live in a constant state of cleanness ready to come into His presence.
To be holy meant to be set apart from the world and devoted to God. The priests, the Tabernacle, and even its utensils were declared holy because they were dedicated for God’s use. These laws were not just about physical hygiene, they were powerful spiritual lessons. They showed that God is perfectly holy, and sinful humanity cannot casually come into His presence.
Uncleanness symbolised the deeper problem of sin that separates people from God. The truth is, you, me, and everyone else are naturally tainted by sin. Not only by our own rebellion against God, but also by the brokenness and corruption of the world around us. Our whole society is damaged by sin, and so are we. By nature, we are unfit and unclean before a holy God. We cannot make ourselves clean by our own efforts.
Jesus, however was completely different. He had no sin in Him at all. He was perfectly pure and holy. And when He came into contact with the unclean, something amazing happened.
When Jesus touched the leper, instead of becoming unclean Himself, the leper became clean.
When the woman with the issue of blood touched Him, she was healed and made clean instantly. That is the power of God’s touch. His holiness overcomes our uncleanness.
But we are more like the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:26-40. We don’t get to physically touch Jesus today. Yet, just like Philip explained the good news to that man, someone can tell us about Jesus. And when we believe, Jesus still cleanses us spiritually and completely.
Jesus is God who came down to earth as a human being. He lived a perfect life and did no wrong. He did not deserve death. Yet He chose to die. He chose to take the place of sinful people who deserve death and eternal separation from God people like you and me. A Christian is not someone who has lived a perfectly pure and clean life and therefore deserves God’s blessing. A Christian is someone who has realized they are sinful before God and can never, ever be good enough or clean enough on their own. A Christian trusts Jesus to do what they cannot do cleanse them from sin and restore their relationship with God
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus on to the earth to cleanse me from my sins. I know I can never be clean enough on my own. I trust in what Jesus has done for me. In Jesus name, Amen.
