DAY 20 – COVENANT

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Exodus 21–24 chapters

DEVOTION “Then the Lord said to Moses, Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have written the instructions and commands, so you can teach the people.” – Exodus 24:12 (NLT)

In this verse, we see that Moses was called by God and given His instructions and commands. Through this, God was making a covenant with Israel, a special agreement where God promised to be their God and they were called to live as His people. These laws were meant to guide Israel ethically and morally. However, they also showed that people struggled to obey God on their own, which revealed their need for a Saviour.

God never intended His law to remain only written on stone.

“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions within them, and I will write them on their hearts. -Jeremiah 31:33 (NLT)

This verse shows a powerful change from laws written on stone to laws written on hearts.

This promise is fulfilled in the New Testament.

“It is written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on human hearts.” – 2 Corinthians 3:3 (NLT)

What Changed? Now, through the Holy Spirit, God’s law lives inside us. So we obey God not because we are forced to, not out of fear. But because we love Him and truly want to do His will.
