TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Deuteronomy 22-24 chapters
DEVOTION
In Deuteronomy 23, God speaks clearly about vows. A vow is a solemn, earnest, and binding promise made to God, to others, or even to oneself. It is a deep commitment to live in a certain way or to carry out a specific action.
In ancient times, people did not rely on written contracts as we do today. A person’s word was as strong as a signature. No one was forced to make a vow, but once it was made, it had to be honored. Breaking a vow meant breaking trust and damaging relationships.
Even today, trust remains the foundation of our relationship with God and with people. A broken promise still hurts, just as it did in the days of Moses. God values integrity, faithfulness, and sincerity in His people.
The psalmist reminds us to “Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High.”Psalm 50:14(NLT)
Making a vow is not what matters most. What matters is living by it. It is easy to promise God many things in moments of emotion during prayer, hardship, or worship. But true devotion is shown in daily obedience, consistency, and faithfulness.
Are the promises you’ve made to God reflect in your daily life?
Does your words match your actions?
Are you faithful in small commitments as well as big ones?
PRAYER
Dear God, help me to be a person of integrity. Teach me to honor my words and to live faithfully before You and others, Amen.
