DAY 48 – CARING FOR THE POOR AND OPPRESSED

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Deuteronomy 13-15 chapters

DEVOTION

God instructed the Israelites to care for the poor among them when they entered the Promised Land. This was not optional, it was an important part of possessing and maintaining the land God had given them.

Caring for the poor is everyone’s responsibility. Though there are National laws and systems meant to protect the needy, helping others is also an active part of Christian life. God counts on His people to provide for those who lack.

Many times, we assume that people are poor because of their own mistakes. This kind of thinking closes our hearts and hands to those in need. We are not called to investigate their past, we are called to respond with love. No matter who someone is or what caused their situation, we are to meet their needs with compassion.

So, ask yourself Who are the poor or struggling people in your community?

Who around you needs encouragement, care, or support?
If you call yourself a child of God, care for others not only with money, but also with love, kindness, and concern.

Identify what people around you lack and support them through Prayer,

Encouragement,

Practical help,

Genuine love.

PRAYER

Dear God, Thank You for teaching me to care for the poor and oppressed. Give me a heart full of compassion and generosity. Help me to love others as You love me. Amen.
