Absalom was handsome and popular like his father David, but he lacked his father’s heart for God. His life shows us how unchecked thoughts can lead to destructive actions, seen in his revenge against Amnon and his rebellion against David.
From his story, we learn the importance of guarding our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) says, Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Absalom acted on his thoughts without filtering them through God’s truth.
Research says that an average person has approximately 6,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day. It also says that thoughts are repetitive in nature. That’s why guarding our heart is essential.
