TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 5-8 chapters
DEVOTION
In 2 Samuel 5, David is finally established as King over all Israel. He had the military wins, the new capital (Jerusalem), and the respect of the people. However, verse 12 reveals his heart that David knew that the Lord had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
Two Key Lessons from David’s Greatness
1. RECOGNITION
David didn’t credit his own strategy or charisma. He knew it was the Lord. Real greatness begins with an honest look at our lives and saying, “God did this.”
2. PURPOSE
God didn’t make David great just for his sake, He did it for the sake of His people. Success is never just for us, it’s a platform to serve others according to God’s plan.
When things go well, do I take the credit or to give thanks?
Am I using my current success(work, family, community) to serve myself or to fulfill God’s purpose?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to follow David’s example of humility. I choose today to keep my ambitions under Your control. Let me not seek greatness from the praise of people or the things I own, but find my identity solely in my relationship with You. Use my life, my skills, and my success to bless others and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
