TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Ruth 1-4 chapters
DEVOTION
Elimelech and his family moved to Moab because of a severe famine in Bethlehem. While living in Moab, Naomi’s husband Elimelech and her two sons died. Later, Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem. Before leaving, she asked her daughters-in-law to go back to their parents homes. Orpah left, but Ruth chose to stay with Naomi.
Let us examine Ruth’s life. She seemed disadvantaged in every way, she was a foreigner in a new land. Her accent, dress, and hairstyle might have been different from the people around her. She came from a place where idols were worshipped. She was married but had no children. Naomi and Ruth were widows, and in those days women in such situations were often vulnerable and easily taken advantage of.
Yet God transformed her situation. Because Ruth trusted God and chose to follow Him, He turned her disadvantages into blessings. God blessed her with a husband, restored her family line, and gave her a child.
PRAYER
Dear God, I’ll yet trust you in my worst and vulnerable situations. I ask for your intervention in my life, and turn them into blessings according to Your will. Amen.
