TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Joshua 17-20 chapters DEVOTION
Context : Following victories by other tribes, seven tribes had not yet received their designated territory, it’s like a wakeup call for them.
Joshua 18:3 (NLT) Then Joshua asked them, “How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given to you?
The above verse talks about Complacency, laziness, slackness, being comfortable where they are. Romans 12:11 says that “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”
Never lazy
↓ instead
work hard
& serve God
enthusiastically
It not only encourages us to keep our zeal for the God but commands us to do so. Serve the Lord enthusiastically is to have a burning heart for God. Its importance is seen in Revelation we see the church Laodicea, Jesus warned them of being in danger ( being lukewarm).what it means is that they lost fire for the God.
What can be done to overcome spiritual complacency and keep our spiritual zeal alive?
1.SPENDING TIME WITH GOD IN PRAYER
Make it a first priority in your life. If you have to start a day, it has to start with prayer not any other thing. Initially it’s going to be difficult but buffet the body & discipline it.
2.FEED THE SPIRIT MAN WITH GOD’S WORD
If you stop feeding physical body It becomes weak. Same with the Spirit man, feeding strengthens, equips you for the challenges ahead. Not just reading word for the sake of reading it, but read & meditate to know the heart of God.
3.FELLOWSHIP WITH BELIEVERS
Proverbs 27:17 says As Iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. In fellowship you’ll be encouraged, strengthened to work & act with more zeal for the God & things of God. Don’t neglect going to the church on Sundays and especially youth meets.
PRAYER
Dear God, help me not be complacent and lazy where I am right now. Help me to overcome spiritual complacency and keep my spiritual zeal alive, Amen.
