TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Luke 13-15 chapters
DEVOTION
Luke 13:6-9
As we read this passage, we come across the illustration of the barren fig tree.
A man planted a fig tree in his vineyard and came looking for fruit, but he found none. After three years of waiting, he told the gardener, “Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?”
But the gardener replied, asking for one more year. He would dig around the tree, put manure on it, and give it special care. If it bore fruit, fine, if not, it could be cut down.
What a powerful illustration!
God has given us so many opportunities, talents, resources, and chances to accomplish wonderful things in life. Yet, sometimes, we become careless, delay taking action, or fail to use what God has entrusted to us. As a result, we remain unfruitful.
But here is the beautiful part is that the gardener asks for one more year.
That reminds us of God’s patience and mercy. He gives us another chance, another season, another month, and even another day to make a difference. He continues to work in us, helping us grow and become fruitful.
What are you doing with the time and opportunities God has given?
Are we using our talents for His glory?
Are we making the most of the resources He has entrusted to us?
Are our lives producing the fruit He desires to see?
The parable also carries a serious reminder. God’s patience should never be taken for granted. His grace is an invitation to change, grow, and bear fruit. Just as the fig tree was expected to produce fruit, our lives should reflect genuine repentance and a transformation of heart.
God has given you another chance. What will you do with it?
Don’t waste the opportunities He has placed before you. Don’t bury the talents He has entrusted to you. Use your time, gifts, and resources wisely. Allow God to work in your life so that you may bear fruit wherever He has planted you.
Read the passage again and let God’s Word sink into your heart.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to be fruitful wherever You have placed me. Teach me to use the opportunities, talents, time, and resources You have given me in the best possible way. Forgive me for the times I have been careless or failed to act when You gave me an opportunity. Help me not to take Your grace and patience for granted, but to grow, change, and bear fruit for Your glory. May my life bring honor to Your name. In Jesus name, amen.
