TODAY’s SCRIPTURE: Luke 7-9 chapters
DEVOTION
Luke 7:1-10
A centurion was a Roman army officer in charge of about one hundred soldiers. He had heard about Jesus and the miracles He performed. In this passage, we see a remarkable example of a Gentile who demonstrated extraordinary faith in Jesus.
The story tells us about a centurion whose servant was seriously ill and close to death. Although the centurion was a man of authority and power, he was deeply concerned about his servant. Instead of ignoring his servant’s suffering, he sought help. This reveals his compassion and the value he placed on the life of someone under his care.
What stands out to me most is the centurion’s understanding of authority. He said to Jesus,
“But say the word, and my servant shall be healed.” Luke 7:7 (KJV)
The centurion understood that just as his commands were obeyed by those under his authority, Jesus had authority that went beyond physical distance. He believed Jesus did not need to be physically present to heal his servant. All He had to do was speak the word.
Jesus was amazed by his faith!
This makes me wonder:
Would Jesus be amazed by my faith?
Would he be amazed by yours?
It is easy to trust God when everything is going well. But what happens when we face difficult situations, receive an unfavorable report, or find ourselves in circumstances beyond our control?
Can we still trust God even when we cannot see the way forward?
The centurion reminds us that faith is not about seeing everything fall into place before we believe. It is about trusting in the authority of Jesus and believing that His Word is sufficient, even when our circumstances suggest otherwise.
PRAYER
Lord, strengthen my faith as I navigate through the challenges of life. Help me to trust in Your Word rather than be overwhelmed by what I see or hear. When circumstances are unfavourable I will only trust you. Teach me to walk by faith and not by sight. May my faith bring glory and honor to Your name. In Jesus mighty name, amen.
