7 JULY 2026, DAY 188 – AVOIDING FIGHTS IS AN HONOUR

TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Proverbs 20-23 Chapters

DEVOTION
Proverbs 20:3 (NLT)

“Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.”

A truly strong person does not feel the need to

prove they are always right. Their confidence comes from within, so they don’t seek to win every argument or have the last word.

In today’s world, many people are quick to argue, retaliate, or fight over even small matters. But God calls His children to respond differently. It takes far more courage to walk away from a quarrel than to continue one. Avoiding unnecessary conflict is not a sign of weakness it is a mark of wisdom, self-control, and honor.

For example, when someone insults you, spreads rumors about you, or posts something hurtful on social media, the natural reaction is to respond immediately. But choosing to remain calm, forgive, or stay silent can prevent a small disagreement from becoming a major conflict.

Only those who are patient and led by the Holy Spirit can resist the urge to retaliate. People of Godly character choose peace over pride because they know that honoring God is more important than winning an argument.

what kind of person are you when disagreements arise?

Do others know you as someone who promotes peace or someone who stirs up conflict?

Is there someone you need to forgive instead of arguing with today?

PRAYER

Dear God, it’s difficult to avoid arguments in my own strength, but with the help of Your Holy Spirit, I know it is possible. Fill me with patience, humility, and self-control. Even when I have every reason to retaliate, help me choose peace and honor You by the way I respond to others. Make me a peacemaker who reflects the character of Christ. In Jesus name, Amen.
