TODAY’s SCRIPTURE : Proverbs 16-19 Chapters
DEVOTION
“Better to be patient than powerful, better to have self-control than to conquer a city.” Proverbs 16:32 NLT
God says that mastering your temper is a greater victory than conquering a city. You may achieve success in business, school, college, ministry, or family life, but if you cannot control your anger, you can damage relationships, destroy opportunities, and lose the respect of others in just a few moments.
When we lose our temper, we often say words we later regret. Those words hurt people and create a ripple effect our anger stirs up anger in others, leading to arguments and broken relationships. Instead of reacting, choose to respond with wisdom.
When you see anger rising with in, say this prayer, “God, please calm me down. Help me respond with a gentle spirit and a peaceful face.” That simple prayer reminds me to let God take control before emotions do.
James gives us a practical pattern for everyday life:
“You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” James 1:19 (NLT)
Listening first helps us understand. Speaking less prevents careless words. Being slow to anger allows God to work in the situation.
The greatest personal victory is not defeating others it is defeating your own temper. A moment of uncontrolled anger can cost you what you value most. But through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can develop self-control, one of the fruit of the Spirit, and respond in a way that honors God.
PRAYER
Dear God,
Help me to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. When I feel ready to explode, fill me with Your peace and give me the strength to respond with self-control. Let my words and actions reflect Your love and bring glory to You.
Amen.
