DAY 80 – WHAT WAS WRONG WITH TAKING CENSUS?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : 1 Samuel 21-24 chapters

DEVOTION

In the book of Numbers, a census was commanded by God to prepare an army for conquering the Promised Land. It had a purpose aligned with God’s will. However, in 1 Samuel, we see a different situation. The land was at peace, Israel had grown strong, and its borders were secure. Yet, David ordered a census out of pride and ambition. He wanted to measure his strength through numbers rather than trust in God’s power.

Even Joab recognized that this was wrong and warned David, but David did not listen. In the same way, we may not count armies, but often place our security in

Money,

Possessions,

Status,

Fame,

Accolades.

Instead of trusting God, we rely on what we have. Sometimes we question God during difficult times, asking, “Why is this happening to me?” But often, we are facing the consequences of our own choices.
TAKING CENSUS (Sin) → 3 DAYS OF SEVERE PLAQUE( consequence)

Yet, there is hope and in 1 Samuel 24, David responds the right way he builds an altar and offers sacrifices to God. He repents sincerely.

This reminds that, God is merciful and ready to forgive when we truly turn back to Him. Today, build your own prayer altar. Confess your sins honestly before God. True repentance is not just saying sorry, it is choosing not to repeat the same mistake again.
PRAYER

Lord, I confess my wrongdoings and sins before You. Help me to turn away from them and give me the strength not to repeat them again. Teach me to trust in You rather than in my own abilities or possessions. Thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness. Amen.
