TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 1-4 chapters DEVOTION
The messenger claimed to be an Amalekite, but his presence in Saul’s camp suggests a fabricated identity. He twisted the truth of the battlefield to fit his own agenda.
By taking Saul’s crown before the Philistines arrived, he chose to loot a fallen king rather than honour him. He saw a tragedy only as a chance for personal gain. The man assumed David shared his own selfish ambition. He thought David would celebrate the death of a rival, but he failed to realize David valued God’s anointed more than a throne. David refused to reward a lie.
If David had honoured the man for “killing” the king, he would have become a partner in the crime. Integrity required David to distance himself from the evil act. This story serves as a warning that deceit leads to disaster. The messenger was executed for a murder he didn’t even commit, proving that a life built on lies eventually collapses under its own weight.
