Day – 64: IDOL WORSHIP

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Judges 16-21 chapters DEVOTION

Micah and his mother appeared sincere in their desire to worship God. Yet, instead of following God’s instructions, they chose to follow their own desires. The Bible describes their attitude clearly as “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Their story is not about pagans or outsiders, it is about God’s own people, the Israelites. This makes it even more meaningful for us today.

Just like in Micah’s time, many people now place their personal interests first. Human nature has not changed. Today, idols may not be carved images, but they can be Mobile phones,

Fame,

Career and studies,

Relationships,

Money,

Personal comfort and happiness.

Anything that takes God’s place in our hearts becomes an idol. Many people are so self-deceived that living by their own standards seems right. But God calls us to live by His truth, not by our feelings or desires. Like Micah, we must be careful not to get trapped in worldly things. Instead, we must hold firmly to God’s Word.

Colossians 3:5 (NLT) “So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.” Greed, lust, pride, and selfish desires can quietly become idols if we are not watchful.

What is my idol?

What matters to me more than God?

PRAYER

Dear God, Search me and know my heart. Expose the areas of my life that have become idols. I repent, Lord. Have mercy on me and forgive me. Help me to put You first in everything I do. Amen.
