TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Joshua 1-4 chapters DEVOTION
“This is my command, be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9 NLT
After the death of Moses, Joshua was chosen by God to lead the Israelites. He was entrusted with guiding nearly one million people a responsibility that must have felt overwhelming. Joshua was stepping into the shoes of a great leader. He faced uncertainty about the future, fear of battles ahead, and the pressure of leading God’s people.
God knew Joshua’s heart. He knew Joshua would feel afraid, discouraged, and unsure at times. That is why God spoke directly to him in Joshua 1:9 and commanded him to be strong and courageous. Notice that God did not say, “Be strong because you are capable.” He said, “Be strong, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua faced many challenges, the raging Jordan River, enemy nations, and even setbacks like the defeat at Ai. Yet every time he chose to trust God’s presence and promises, he found the courage to move forward. He learned that strength does not come from self-confidence, but from God-confidence.
In the same way, we also face moments of discouragement, fear, and uncertainty. We may feel overwhelmed by responsibilities, studies, family situations, or future plans. Like Joshua, we may wonder if we are strong enough. But God gives us the same message today, “Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. I am with you.”
Our courage grows when we remember that God walks with us in every situation. When we depend on Him, obey His Word, and trust His guidance, He gives us the strength and wisdom we need. Joshua’s life reminds us that when God is with us, no challenge is too great. With faith, courage, and obedience, we can move forward into everything God has prepared for us.
PRAYER
Dear God, Thank You for Your constant presence and encouragement. Help me to be strong and courageous, even when I feel weak, confused and scared of things around. Teach me to trust You completely and to walk in obedience to Your will. Remind me that You are always with me. Give me the strength and wisdom to overcome every challenge. In Jesus name, Amen.
