TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Deuteronomy 16-18 chapters
DEVOTION
Deuteronomy 18:9 (NLT)
“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there.”
This verse reminds us that God has always desired His people to live differently from the world around them. When the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land, God warned them not to copy the sinful practices of the surrounding nations. He knew that if they followed worldly ways, their hearts would slowly drift away from Him.
This same message is repeated in Book of Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behaviors and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
God is calling us, even today, to live a life that reflects His holiness.
1. Do Not Be Conformed to this World
When the Bible speaks about “the world”it is not referring to the earth or people around us. It refers to the mindset, values, and attitudes of the present age thinking that is often opposite to God’s truth. Today, the world labels many things as cool, normal, acceptable and they go against God’s Word. Pride, selfishness, dishonesty, immorality, and unforgiveness are often promoted as lifestyle choices. But God calls His people to righteousness, humility, purity, and love. The worldly mindset focuses mainly on self
Do what makes you happy
Follow your heart
However, God’s Word teaches us to deny ourselves, follow Christ, and live for His glory. When we choose God’s way over the world’s way, we may feel different or even rejected but we are pleasing Him.
2. Renewing of the mind
God does not only want us to change our actions, He wants to change our thinking. Transformation begins in the mind. When we spend time in prayer, reading Scripture, and listening to God, our thoughts begin to align with His will. Old habits, sinful desires, and wrong attitudes slowly lose their power. God reshapes our hearts so that we begin to love what He loves and hate what He hates.
3. Present Your Body as a Living Sacrifice Romans 12 also teaches us to present ourselves as “living sacrifices.” This means offering our whole life to God our body, mind, time, talents, and desires. As Christians, we must remember we do not belong to ourselves. We belong to Christ. He paid the price for us with His blood. Therefore, our lives should honor Him. Presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice means saying no to sin, Choosing purity, mindful of words and actions. Using our gifts for God’s work Putting God’s will above our own It means replacing our will with His will. This is not easy. It requires surrender every day. It costs us our pride, comfort, and selfish desires. But what we gain in Christ is far greater.
Am I copying the world’s values or God’s Word?
Is my mind being renewed daily through prayer and Scripture?
Have I truly surrendered my life to God?
Am I willing to obey Him even when it costs me? PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for calling me to live a holy life.Help me not to conform to this world, renew my mind daily by Your Word and teach me to present my body as a living sacrifice.Help me to surrender my will to Yours. Let my life bring glory to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
