DAY 26 – FIRE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 8-10 chapters

DEVOTION

Leviticus 10:1,2 The fire on the altar of burnt offering was never to go out, showing that it was holy and set apart by God. It is possible that Nadab and Abihu brought fire from another source, making their offering unholy. More than a mistake, their act was a serious abuse of their priestly office and a flagrant disrespect toward God. God had just given clear instructions on how worship was to be conducted.

As leaders, Nadab and Abihu had a greater responsibility to obey God. In their position, they could easily lead many people astray. Their failure reminds us that leadership before God is not to be taken lightly. Aaron’s sons were careless in following God’s laws for sacrifice. In response, God destroyed them with a blast of fire. Performing sacrifices was an act of obedience, and doing them correctly showed reverence for God. If one way were as good as another, God would not have given specific commands.

It is easy for us, too, to grow careless in obedience to do things our way instead of God’s way. But God always has good reasons for His commands. Whenever we consciously or carelessly disobey Him, we place ourselves in danger. If God has commissioned you to lead or teach others, never take that role for granted or abuse it. Stay faithful to God and follow His instructions.

PRAYER

Dear God, Help me to carefully obey Your commands and instructions in my life. Teach me to honour you with reverence and faithfulness in all that I do. In Jesus name, Amen.
