TODAY’S SCRIPTURE– Exodus 17 to 20 chapters
DEVOTION
“As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage.” “Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset.” “As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.” – Exodus 17:11-13 (NLT)
It’s about Hands stretched out in prayer. Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed and when he let down his hand, Amalekites prevailed. Moses hands became heavy , took a stone and put under him & sat on it. Aaron & Hur supported his hands one on one side & the other on the other side & his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. so Joshua defeated Amalekites & his people with the edge of the sword.
The Nomads of Amalek attacked Israel as they went through the wilderness & they attacked them.
God ordered Israel to go to war against Amalekites & while Joshua led the battle, behind the scenes Moses supported the work in the prayer. Moses did the important work, he prayed for the victory.
He held up his hand that means that he was in Israelite posture of prayer. Moses prayed, Israel won. Moses stopped praying, Amalekites won. Moses understood that the battle depended on the prayer. God wants us to pray with the same passion. prayer is easy but sometimes it’s hard.
That’s why paul says, always labouring fervently in prayers -Colossians 4:12
we must continue to pray. Aaron & Hur literally held up his hands to pray, they partnered with him in intercession. Moses needed others to come & strengthen. If Moses, Aaron, Hur hadn’t prayed, the battle would’ve been lost, history would have changed.
In Hebrews 7:25, says that there’s one greater intercessor for the people of God, one enthroned that’s our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven . Jesus is now praying for you and me. It’s such an amazing thing.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for making me understand the importance of prayer and it’s so comforting to know that you pray on behalf of me. Lord help me to pray with passion. In JESUS name,
Amen .
