TODAY’S SCRIPTURE : Exodus 1-4 chapters
DEVOTION
“But the more the Egyptians oppressed them, the more the Israelites multiplied and spread, and the more alarmed the Egyptians became.” – Exodus 1:12 (NLT)
Oppression means being mistreated, exploited, or harmed by others.
Yet Scripture reveals a powerful truth:
The more Israel was oppressed, the more they multiplied. This was not an accident. It was part of God’s divine design. God used suffering to grow His people into a mighty nation.
Just as the saying goes, “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.” God often uses suffering to bring spiritual growth, strength, and expansion.
One powerful example is from the 3rd century in North Africa, two brave women named Perpetua and Felicity. Perpetua was a young and noblewoman . Both were imprisoned for putting their faith in Christ. Perpetua’s father pleaded with her to renounce Christ,so that she would be spared, but she famously Replied, “I CANNOT CALL MYSELF ANY OTHER THAN WHO I AM, A CHRISTIAN.” Though she faced emotional pain, physical suffering, and deep fear, her love for Christ was greater. She understood that following Christ is not easy, it requires sacrifice, courage, and perseverance. Yet she remained faithful to the end (even in the face of execution), giving glory to God through her suffering.
Their lives remind us that suffering is not meaningless when placed in God’s hands. It produces faith, courage, and eternal reward.
My dear friend !
Are you willing to stand for Christ, even in the face of suffering ?
PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for speaking to me today. Help me to endure suffering with faith and joy, just as Your Word says in James 1:2, to count it all joy when trials come our way. Teach me to trust you in every season and to rejoice even in hardship, knowing You are working for Your glory and our good. In JESUS name,
Amen.
