DAY 6 – INSTANT vs DELAYED GRATIFICATION  – planting a tree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE – Genesis 21-24 chapters

DEVOTION

“Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God.” — Genesis 21:33 (NLT)

The Tamarisk Tree – A Hidden Message In Scripture, even small details carry deep meaning. One such detail is the tamarisk tree that Abraham planted. At first glance it seems simple—but it holds a powerful lesson. Did you know? A tamarisk tree can take nearly 400 years to reach its full growth. That means Abraham never planted this tree for himself. He planted it for future generations. This was not about instant result it was about lasting impact.

What Does It Mean for Us? The tamarisk tree symbolizes endurance, faith, and legacy. Abraham chose delayed gratification over immediate reward. He sowed something that others would one day enjoy. This challenges us today: Can we plant seeds that we may never see grow—but will bless the next generation? Planting a seed today means sowing God’s truth, love, and values into the lives of others—especially children and young people. How Do We Plant These Seeds?

God gives us a clear instruction: “Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” — Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (NLT)

This means: Talking about God’s love at home, On the road, In the morning, At night, Everywhere and always. We are called to speak God’s Word into the next generation. Let’s Reflect What are we doing today that will still matter 100 years from now? Are we building something in the next generation?

PRAYER
